Welcome to Kindergarten!
My name is Detra L. Dabney and I am so excited to be teaching Kindergarten this year! I believe that all children are capable of learning and being successful in school. "It takes a village" is more than just a proverb. It is deeply engraved in my heart and practice.
Now, here's a little bit about me! I have been teaching since 1993 in the Houston and surrounding areas. I have a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics-Child Development from Texas Southern University. My educational background also includes a Master's of Early Childhood Education degree from The University of Houston-Clear Lake and a Principal Certification. I have taught grades Pre-K through Third and part-time as a community college instructor.
My husband and I are the proud parents of 3 wonderful sons ages 25, 13, and 7. We have a mix Terrier/Beagle named Sparky and a fish named Mr. Money. My hobbies include deep sea fishing, traveling, and reading.
A postive teacher - parent relationship is pertinent to the success of a child. This relationship embraces trust and respect as we work together to support the child's learning. My conference time is from 9:05-9:45. Please feel free to contact me at (713) 917-3630 or ddabney@houstonisd.org.
We are destined to an exciting year with helping your child soar to new heights!
